The physicality of queerness
“The Physicality of Queerness” has two meanings. “Physicality” in the sense of the physical material culture of gay men, as well as “physicality” in the sense of sex and sexuality. This duality is explored with physical elements added onto oil paintings. Together the images and the materials celebrate the nitty gritty: the leather, pearls, beard burn, spit, and sweat. Queerness and queer sexuality often have to be sanitized in order to be acceptable or palatable, where straight and cisgender depictions of sex and sexuality are celebrated and esteemed. As a gay man, I seek to elevate queerness. Dedicated to all the freaks, faggots, and transsexuals.
